The short version. Workout Tracking is built to keep your data on your device. We don’t require an account, we don’t sell your data, and your health metrics stay inside Apple Health and your encrypted iCloud — never on our servers.

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Workout Tracking (“the app”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use our iPhone and Apple Watch applications and this website. By using the app you agree to the practices described here.

Our guiding principle is data minimisation: we collect as little as possible, keep it on your device wherever we can, and give you full control over anything that leaves it.

2. Information we collect

Information you create

Workouts, activities, schedules, technique selections, equipment, notes, personal records and app preferences that you enter. This content is stored locally on your device and, if you enable it, in your private iCloud account.

Information collected automatically

  • Diagnostics: anonymous crash logs and performance data, only if you opt in via iOS settings.
  • Device basics: device model and OS version, used solely to render the app correctly and triage bugs.

We do not use advertising identifiers, cross-app trackers, or third-party analytics SDKs that profile you.

3. Health & fitness data

With your explicit permission, the app reads from and writes to Apple Health (HealthKit) and Apple Fitness:

  • Reads: heart rate, active energy, distance, and related workout metrics to display your session and progress.
  • Writes: completed workouts, calories and duration so your Activity rings close and your history stays accurate.
  • Sensors: on Apple Watch we read live sensor data (heart rate, motion, pace) during an active workout.

HealthKit data is never sold, never used for advertising, and never transmitted to our servers. It stays within Apple’s encrypted Health store and is governed by Apple’s own privacy protections. You can revoke access at any time in Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices.

4. How we use data

  • To build, display and guide you through your workouts.
  • To calculate stats, trends, pace, calories and personal records.
  • To sync your sessions between iPhone and Apple Watch.
  • To diagnose crashes and improve reliability (anonymised, opt-in only).

We never use your training or health data to build advertising profiles or to make automated decisions that affect you.

5. Storage & sync

Your data lives primarily on your device. If you enable iCloud sync, your workouts are stored in your personal iCloud container, encrypted in transit and at rest under your Apple ID — we have no access to it. Watch ↔ phone sync happens directly between your paired devices.

If you delete the app, locally stored data is removed with it. iCloud copies follow your iCloud settings and can be deleted from your Apple ID storage.

6. Sharing & disclosure

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We may disclose information only when required by law, to comply with a valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users and the public.

7. Third-party services

If you choose to connect them, the following operate under their own privacy policies:

  • Apple Music / Spotify — when you link a music service for in-workout playback.
  • Apple HealthKit & iCloud — for health data and sync, governed by Apple.
  • Content delivery network — the technique library is delivered from a CDN; only cache-validation requests are made, with no personal identifiers attached.

8. Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live (including under GDPR and CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data. Because most data stays on your device, you can exercise these directly:

  • Access & export: your workouts are visible in-app; Health data can be exported from the Apple Health app.
  • Delete: remove individual workouts in-app, or delete all data by removing the app and its iCloud container.
  • Withdraw permissions: revoke Health, music or notification access in iOS Settings at any time.

9. Children’s privacy

Workout Tracking is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect new features or legal requirements. Material changes will be highlighted in the app or on this page, with an updated “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
